I CREATED THIS PIECE TO COMMEMORATE MY FATHER.
As a world-renowned sporting art watercolorist, my father was captivated by how beautifully and simply the early carvers created their shorebird decoys. They were sculptural treasures to him.
This black-bellied plover is a bronze rendition of one of my father’s watercolor paintings. It’s my interpretation of a well-worn carving created by William Mathews back in the early 1900s.
