Shorebird: Ira Hudson Lesser Yellowlegs

I created this piece to commemorate my father.

From the artist, Dale Weiler: Shorebird art is one way to honor my father. As a world-renowned sporting art watercolorist, my Dad (M.C. Weiler) was captivated by how beautifully and simply the early carvers created their shorebird decoys. They were sculptural treasures to him.

This lesser yellowlegs  is a bronze rendition of one of my father’s watercolor paintings. It’s my interpretation of a well-worn carving created by Ira Hudson back in the early 1900s. I first carved it in wood & stone before casting it in bronze.
