I CREATED THIS PIECE TO COMMEMORATE MY FATHER.
From the artist, Dale Weiler: Shorebird art is one way to honor my father. As a world-renowned sporting art watercolorist, my dad was captivated by how beautifully and simply the early carvers created their shorebird decoys. They were sculptural treasures to him.
This yellow lesserlegs is a bronze rendition of one of my father’s watercolor paintings. It’s my interpretation of a well-worn carving created by Ira Hudson back in the early 1900s. I first carved it in wood & stone before casting it in bronze.
