Weiler Woods Love Story in Sculpture
For a detailed look at some of the sculptures featured in the article, here are some links and more in-depth descriptions.
Leap Of Faith
A polar bear carved from Colorado alabaster, Leap of Faith is one of our favorites. Dale spent many days at the NC Zoo studying the anatomy of their 2 polar bears. Since the sculpture was carved, we have had the honor of actually walking with wild polar bears outside Churchill, Canada. Read our blog on our adventure here.
Enigma
Dale carved this mountain gorilla from Virginia steatite. You have to wonder what Enigma is thinking. We hope to trek with mountain gorillas in Rwanda or Uganda in the near future.
Love Knot
Our most favorite sculpture of all! A mother elephant and baby entwine their trunks in “Love Knot”
Dale witnessed this loving gesture while in Tanzania on a trip to prevent elephant poaching. How fitting this was Dale’s wedding present to Loti. And it just so happens elephants are also her favorite animal.
Preening Queen
The trip to Tanzania inspired a number of sculptures by Dale. This tawny eagle was the perfect subject for this beautiful piece of Italian marble. She is preening her feathers, thus the name “Preening Queen”.
